of Queensland

The Early Music Society of Queensland Inc (EMSQ) is an enthusiastic community dedicated to the appreciation and promotion of music, instruments, and dance from the Medieval, Renaissance, Baroque and early Classical periods.
As well as hosting workshops and concerts, we have a music library and a collection of Renaissance and Baroque instruments available for hire to members. We also publish a regular newsletter filled with informative articles and updates about the early music scene.

Bach Unwrapped, 20–30 March 2026 is a 10-day, 10-event mini-festival and micro-tour celebrating the music of Johann Sebastian Bach across Brisbane and the Sunshine Coast Hinterland with events in Woombye, Eumundi, Eudlo and Cooroy.

Led by cellist Louise King (Cello Dreaming) and guest violinist Margaret Blades, the program brings audiences up close to Bach’s music in small halls, studios, cafes, parks and hinterland venues. Performances feature solo violin (Partita in E major), solo cello (Suite in C major) and Bach duo works, alongside emerging artist masterclasses and free online Bach At Lunch Instagram LIVE sessions.

Across the 10 days audiences can experience intimate concerts, masterclasses, a studio session, Bach in the Park, Bach at the Barn, Bach at The Nook in the Noosa Hinterland and a final Bach & Brunch gathering at Eudlo General Store.

EMSQ has an extensive music library from which members are welcome to borrow.

Instruments for hire
We have a collection of Renaissance and Baroque instruments available for hire, including viols, violins and other stringed instruments, as well as crumhorns, cornettos and other wind instruments.​ A small number of second hand recorders are available for sale at very reasonable prices.
